Rohit Sharma Player Profile
Rohit Sharma is known for his smooth and effortless batting style. When he first started playing, he looked like the next big thing in Indian cricket, coming from the Mumbai suburbs. It took him some time to fully develop, but by the 2010s, Rohit became a giant in white-ball cricket and a key figure in T20 cricket, especially as the captain of one of the strongest teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Everyone could see that Rohit had talent, but fans were frustrated because it took a while for his skills to turn into big scores. Despite this, selectors and captains kept trusting him. On social media, some people even mocked him by calling him “talented” when he wasn’t delivering results. But everything changed in 2012 when Rohit started opening the batting in One-Day Internationals (ODIs). From that point, his career took off.
Rohit became famous for scoring double-hundreds in ODIs, winning six IPL titles in the first 15 seasons, and hitting five centuries in the 2019 ODI World Cup. In 2019, when he began opening the batting in Test matches, he scored three centuries in his first series, including one double-century.
Ironically, his IPL team gave him the nickname “Hitman,” even though his batting style was more about elegance than power. However, Rohit became known as one of the best six-hitters of his time. His ability to speed up his innings was so impressive that people started expecting huge scores every time he reached 50.
As captain of the Mumbai Indians, Rohit led the team to five IPL titles and earned praise for his calm, thoughtful leadership. He wasn’t afraid to use data and technology to make decisions. Rohit also led India to win two titles when Virat Kohli wasn’t available, and in 2022, he became India’s captain in all formats of the game.
