Jasprit Bumrah Player Profile
Jasprit Bumrah first caught everyone’s attention with his unusual bowling style. His bowling action is different from others, and his fast pace makes it hard for batters to play against him. Bumrah’s bowling has a unique release point that is tough for batsmen to read.
Like his teammate from the Mumbai Indians team, Lasith Malinga, Bumrah became known for his ability to bowl accurate yorkers. A yorker is a ball that lands right near the batter’s feet, making it difficult to hit. He learned how to bowl this ball better during his time in the Indian Premier League (IPL), watching and learning from Malinga.
Bumrah was a regular player for the India A team and was close to being selected for the national team. However, at the end of 2014, a bad knee injury kept him away from cricket for over four months. After more than a year, Bumrah got another chance. His performance in the 2015-16 domestic season helped him get noticed again. He was the second-highest wicket-taker for Gujarat in the Ranji Trophy and topped the bowling charts in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he took five wickets in the final match. His team, Gujarat, won the one-day tournament for the first time.
His good performances and an injury to Mohammed Shami led to Bumrah being selected for the Indian team that toured Australia. He played a key role, becoming the highest wicket-taker in the T20 series, helping India win all three matches. After that, MS Dhoni praised Bumrah, calling him the best discovery of the tour. Bumrah was then selected to play in the 2016 World T20.
Jasprit Bumrah’s IPL Achievements
- Jasprit Bumrah has been very important in helping Mumbai Indians (MI) win the IPL five times. He is the second-highest wicket-taker for MI, only behind Lasith Malinga.
- MI discovered Bumrah after he played only one season of domestic T20 cricket. They signed him as an uncapped player before IPL 2013. He played just two matches that season, and his first wicket in the IPL was Virat Kohli. In 2020, his 100th IPL wicket was also Kohli.
- Since 2014, Bumrah has become an important part of MI’s bowling group. He is now the leader of their bowling attack. Bumrah’s unique bowling action, fast pace, and many different types of deliveries make him very hard to face. His yorker is especially accurate and dangerous, and he can bowl well at any stage of the game.
- Bumrah was MI’s highest wicket-taker in three of their IPL title-winning years. He took 20 wickets in 2017, 19 in 2019, and 27 in 2020. He was also part of the MI team that won in 2013 and 2015, though he didn’t play many games then because he was new in 2013 and injured in 2015.
