Jeremiah Louis will step in to replace Sherfane Rutherford, who has pulled out of the tournament due to personal reasons.
Seamer Jeremiah Louis will join his younger brother Mikyle Louis at the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots for CPL 2024. Jeremiah, who is 28 years old, is replacing Sherfane Rutherford, who left the tournament for personal reasons.
With Jeremiah joining the team, the Louis brothers might get to play together in the CPL for the first time. Mikyle made his CPL debut this season, while Jeremiah has already played in six CPL matches between 2016 and 2022. In those games, he took three wickets with an average of 38.66 and an economy rate of 9.66. Jeremiah also played in the 6IXTY competition for the Patriots in 2022, where he took four wickets in five matches, with an economy rate of 10.68.
Jeremiah is better known for his skills in longer formats of the game. In first-class cricket, he has taken 151 wickets in 57 matches, with an average of 25.43. He was recently picked for West Indies’ Test squad for their tour of England, but had to withdraw due to injury.
Mikyle Louis has been a standout player in his first CPL season, scoring 187 runs in five innings with an average of 37.40 and a strike rate of 155.83. Among the Patriots, only Evin Lewis (191 runs) and Kyle Mayers (204 runs) have more runs than Mikyle this season.
In an interview with us last month, Mikyle shared how his older brother Jeremiah has been more than just family—he’s also a mentor and a close friend.
“He has influenced me in many ways,” Mikyle said about Jeremiah. “When I was going through a tough time in my career, Jeremiah was out there playing for teams like Leeward Islands, West Indies A, or in President’s XI matches. He would come back and talk to me, saying, ‘I bowled to some great batsmen today. You’re not far behind; keep working hard. Trust me, bro, with your skill, you have time to grow.’ Those talks gave me hope and made me believe I was good enough.”
Jeremiah’s addition to the Patriots is expected to strengthen their local fast-bowling attack, which has struggled this season. Bowlers like Dominic Drakes, Odean Smith, Ryan John, and Johann Layne have all been expensive, with each conceding over 12 runs an over.
Unfortunately, the Patriots are currently at the bottom of the CPL 2024 standings with only one win in seven games. They also finished last in CPL 2023 and have secured only two wins over the last two seasons.
